Week 7
Wow! Are we really on Week 7 of the Autumn half term? Time is zooooming by at the speed of a space rocket on the way to Mars!
The children have been really busy and messy creating 3D planets out of Papier Mache. It was fantastic and funny to watch the children trying to blow up their balloon then with great relish using lots of gloopy glue to stick on pieces of cut up paper. The end products will be going on display in our classrooms very shortly so watch this SPACE !! (Sorry that was a weak joke!)
Not only have the children worked hard to develop the space theme in their art work but also in their PE Dance sessions. They have worked with a partner to create their dance routines, initially linked to Holst's Planet Suite but more recently they have begun to grove to the theme tune of the film "Men In Black" and David Bowie's 'Space Oddity.' Have a look at the pictures below and see just how well they've worked with a partner to create their dances...
So what's in store for the week ahead?
Literacy - In literacy this week, we are continuing to write about the planets in our Solar System and we are also taking a look at the Sun. Our focus this week is to use some Amazing Adjectives to describe the beauty of the sun and planets. Please have another look at them on the website below http://www.planetsforkids.org/
then the challenge is to make the following sentence a fantastic sentence by using adjectives ...
The Sun is at the centre of our Solar System.
Numeracy - In numeracy, we are starting to look at Data handling. We will begin the week by sorting data on odd/even numbers. Can you remember the rhyme that helps us remember?
(0, 2, 4, 6, 8, even numbers are great! 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, odd numbers all the time! )
Then we are moving on to sorting data using 'Branching trees!' If you want to find out what they are it will all be explained later on in the week - no they don't have leaves but they do have branches!!. As the week progresses we will move on to look at bar charts - wow yet another busy week!!
Can you create a bar chart of the different types of vehicles that come down the road where you live in just one day?
Have a fantastic week :)
